ARCHITECTURE

Itätalo is a fine example of a wealthy Farmer’s Manor in the 19th Century. It as a nationally significant cultural environment under the protection of The National Regional Planning Authority .

The courtyard of today looks as it did in the 1800’s, when vast extensions were made and the main buildings were erected or restored. Buildings in their present locations appear on Finland’s first General Survey maps from the 1600’s, but according to tradition the place has been inhabited since at least the early Middle Ages.

The Manor House (Pykninki)

Built in 1849 as the Squire’s luxurious private quarters. The high stone foundation and light, lofty rooms clearly set it apart from the older buildings.

The Farm House (Renk' tupa)

Mighty rafters and a large stove with its big oven dominate the old 18th century workers’ quarters.

The Fleming’s Hunting Lodge (Flemingin metsästysmaja)

The oldest house on the estate. The Hunting Lodge is a National Finnish Monument under the protection of the National Museum

The Cowshed (Kivinavetta)

The largest and in its way most impressive building on the Estate is the stonemason Cowshed, which was built during the Hunger Years of the 1870’s.

The Granaries and the Old Windmill

The two Granaries and the Old Windmill recall days when Itätalo was one of the most important estates in Kustavi.
